Dunno if there is a module lead for this, yet I made it and recall very well the need for it ;)

I understand that PR reviews are done to filter bad or non optimal code, but in this case please understand the idea is really to allow migration of old apps, and with that bring more users and customers to AS7+/EAP6+. There is no point in change the API.
