Kris, I applied the commit as you have done and then built the 8.2.0.Final. My sim links still don't work. 
I then figured out I need this in my jboss-web.xml
<symbolic-linking-enabled>true</symbolic-linking-enabled>

but still no luck. Was there anything else you had to do?
