PicketLink was deprecated in favor of KeyCloak http://www.keycloak.org/ which has all the features of picketlink and much more.
It was also recently released as standalone supported product Red Hat SSO. https://access.redhat.com/products/red-hat-single-sign-on

Development team that used to work on PL moved to KeyCloak and only maintenance fixes are done to PL.

I would recommend you to migrate to KeyCloak as you will get much more features that PL never had and much better administration tools and integration with other security providers
