I don't want any metaspace element in the xml. I read the JIRA description as being about display, not about configuration.

Configuration of metaspace should be left to using the generic option setting ability, so the user adds an option for -XX:MetaspaceSize etc. Having a specific element like <permgen> to configure that kind of thing proved to be a mistake, since now we've had to jump through all these hoops when the concept went away in the JVM.
