Infinispan is moving away from ASYNC mode, in favor of the async cache API.  This is a good thing, as it clarifies cache operation semantics and eliminates the abuse of invocation flags.

ASYNC vs SYNC behavior should move to the new subsystems for configuring web and ejb clustering profiles.
