[~uxdlc] that's a question for UX! IMO it's nice to be able to launch the Data Type dialog from anywhere.

Whether this is a button on the data-type drop-down; or a entry in the drop-down, or a button on the screen somewhere; I don't mind. I do just think that if a User goes to set a data-type (where-ever, Properties Panel, "in grid" etc) they may think at that moment "Oh, I need to make a new data-type".
