This was caused by an OpenJDK 9 issue (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/9-0-1-relnotes-3883752.html#JDK-8189131) where cacerts is empty, causing a failure when an ArrayList is initialized using the null list obtained from cacerts. Fixed by adding a check to make sure the list is not null before initializing the ArrayList.
