The {{org.jgroups.protocols.INJECT_VIEW}} brought in JGroups 4 does not help anything since the implementation is rather naive: while it could be used for splitting, it does not handle injecting a merge view ({{org.jgroups.protocols.INJECT_VIEWTest#injectMergeEvent}}).
