Hi [~danielezonca] I've linked a couple of JIRA that relate to this requirement.

I agree with you and think that it'd be more consistent to open the DMN file and show the applicable element rather than use a popup. It is possible to pass parameters to a screen (by setting parameters on a {{PathPlaceRequest}}). This could include the {{DRGElement}} UUID that we'd then use to highlight the applicable element within the editor.
