darn, my portlet-instances.xml info didn't come out.

I'm putting a  tag after the <portlet-ref> tag inside the  tag.

The preferences tag looks like this

\<preferences\>
           \ <preference\>
               \<name\>resultsxml\</name\>
               \<value\>C:/Jobs/ProHealth Care/HTML/medPatientSearch/webapp/WEB-INF/jsp/resultsdisplay.xsl\</value\>
               \<read-only\>true\</read-only\>
            \</preference\>
         \</preferences\> 

but without the '\'
