Thanks Peter, I finally got it to work. As you had guessed, it was connecting to the wrong port number. For some reason, my SQL server instance is listening on port 1072 (while I thought that SQL servers listen on 1433, at least sql server 2000 listened on that port, but 2005 listens on 1072).

Once I corrected the port number in the *-ds.xml file, everything went fine.

Thanks once again. Should have checked the port to start with.
