This is because you might be using older version of xalan, xerces jars. 
Try to update the latest versions of these jars.I did not tried with this approach. 
My approch i s: 
create a folder in jrehome\lib folder with name "endorsed" and put the following jars in it. 
1. xalan.jar 
2. xercesImpl.jar 
3. xml-apis.jar. 

It works for me.
