Sorry i misread your first post, i thought you were talking about uploading a new content.

In the directory browser there is no link to the content itself. You are saving the html page showing the file, not the file itself. 
You can only use the direct link as:
http://localhost:8080/portal/content/default/images/homeimg_jbosslogo.gif
