Ah Ha....   I found a reply in one of the other posts that led me to the attachments I need to download.    They were at the following url :

you want hibernate3-deployer.zip  which contains an archive that when extracted into server/default/deploy/jboss-hib
ernate.deployer/  provides the missing files.
