I guess you have enabled debugging in both jboss servers with
-Xdebug -Xnoagent -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8787,server=y,suspend=n
in jboss.conf
This may be a problem, I have just had busy port 8787 and jboss [single] could not be started with the same unclear error diagnostics.
