I have also had this problem for a while, and I just found the solution. When I first tried to use PostgreSQL, I removed the hsqldb-ds.xml file from [$JBOSS_HOME]/server/default/deploy
Even though I do not referr to DefaultDS in my application, JBoss needs it. So when I moved the file back the problem disapeared.
