If you want the client to not fail if all nodes of the cluster go down have a look at the client retry Interceptor http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=RetryInterceptor. 
The Default for SLSB LB is RoundRobin afaik, are you looking for some specific detail?.
