I just tested bringing up JBoss AS 4.2.0.CR2 on Fedora Core 6 and had no problems.  In fact, I tested it with the IBM 1.5 JDK, the Sun 1.5 and 1.6 JDK's, and the BEA JRockit 1.5 JDK, and all worked fine.

Is networking actually enabled on your machine?
