If you're interested in a long, complicated discussion of this issue, have a look at http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=95862 . The key, as Bela said, is to make sure the Hibernate classes are visible to the classloader that JBoss Cache uses to deserialize messages.
