Okay, maybe I am not a complete nut-case for trying to deploy two webapps in the same earfile - but then I am for not configuring jbpm in the one that caused the problem.

Adding 
  <bpm:jbpm>
  </bpm:jbpm>

to components.xml solves my problem (naturally!).
