Nope.  I use an seam-gen based ant script, I just add -Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8787,server=y,suspend=n as 'VM arguements' to the server launch config, start it in normal mode, then attach a debugger as described.  I've never got it to launch using the debug start.
