Ok. I worked around this problem by invoking the setter in an  action method. My only question now is what is the event org.jboss.seam.postSetVariable for? I am too new to Seam to fully understand what it means when the manual says "called when the context variable  is set". Does it mean bean injection or invoking a setter?
