Hmm.. something else... my method where this happens (save) is annotated with a @TransactionAttribute(TransactionAttributeType.REQUIRES_NEW)

and the sfsb with 
  | @TransactionAttribute(TransactionAttributeType.NOT_SUPPORTED)

Dont know if that might give some insight.
