I figured this out finally...

You need to modify the JGroups config for the Clustered Post Office. The default config has a bind_address (127.0.0.1) in the clustered.xxx.persistence-service.xml file. I removed that and clustering works great now on separate machines. Note that there are 2 instances of the config in this file.
