[jboss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Getting user and group information from withing a portlet

How do I get to the user object from within a Portlet's doView (or doEdit) method.  The only way that I've been able to do it is by having my Portlet extend JBossPortlet, which then ties me to JBoss classes.  

I'm OK with this, but I was wondering if there was a better approach.

I'm using portal version 2.4.1 and AS version 4.0.4
