I have used this code since I needed for my application and it works fine. 
I also created patch on original EnumConverter class in CVS with some modifications (mostly because Seam CVS version now works with JSF 1.2) and submitted it to JIRA http://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBSEAM-1351
