Sorry, I realized this morning I forgot to post the version of Seam.  

This exception started happening when I upgraded to Seam 2.0.0.GA from 1.2.1.  Since I built the project using Maven and the Seam-Maven plugin found at http://software.softeu.cz/seam/, I haven't used the seam-gen build.xml.  The exception does occur most often while executing the test via the testng plugin for Eclipse (or it could just seem that way since I execute test from Eclipse more often than maven).  

Either way, the exception is the same; starting from jboss.aop.domain.
