The JIRA issue Pete linked to is the reason for your error. A workaround is to add parenthesis to the method call in the EL (so "#{webCustomerAction.persistContact()}" ).

Even when you do fix that, the redirection and/or message showing still might not work properly because of some other Seam bugs (see http://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBSEAM-2139)
