Solved!

The problem was: my component.xml did not provide the xsi:schemaLocation for persistence and transaction :) I didn't notice that until I wrapped the long lines of the components tag...

The same problem can be observed in the Hibernate2 example from the Seam distribution 2.0.0.1beta.
