If you said that you were running a browser from another machine and attempting to access the app server using http://myMachine:8080, and it was not working, then I would understand it. But because you have a browser open on the same machine as the app server and are using the exact url "http://localhost:8080", then it should work.

What happens if you use the url http://localhost:8080/jmx-console? I'm asking because maybe just the home page is messed up.
