Just a thought. How are you starting JBossAS? Do you open a command prompt, cd to the bin directory, and then enter "run"? Or are you double-clicking the run.bat file? Also, are you by any chance closing the command prompt window after JBossAS has started?

Also, after JBossAS has started, what is the output from running:

netstat -abn
