Try moving JBossAS out of the "Application Servers" directory. Spaces in path names tends to confuse various Java libraries.  Also, try upgrading to the latest 1.5 JDK (1.5.0_15, I think). If none of that works, you might have to redownload and reinstall (usually when strange things like this happen reinstalling seems to be the only thing that solves the problems.)
