there was a fix for a similar problem, will be released in version 1.4.1SP10. See https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBCACHE-1406
I also suggest upgrading to last 1.4.1 SP9 (and 10 when it will be released).
Most likely the problem is caused by locks not being released.
