Robert,

I am fairly sure you are using GateIn Portlet Container 2.1 with JBoss AS 5.1. Can you confirm that?
The issue with this container is fixed within  https://jira.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-6719 https://jira.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-6719
