Can you write an unit test for this scenario ?

Take a look at  http://docs.jboss.org/ironjacamar/developerguide/en/html/ http://docs.jboss.org/ironjacamar/developerguide/en/html/ on how to get started.

The "deployers" directory contains some resource adapters that are deployed using ShrinkWrap and Arquillian, which should be an ideal setup for your test case.

The spec requirements are listed in 5.3.7.5 - but that doesn't mean that we can extend this functionality  :)
