3.0, a long, long time ago.
Why you use such old server? Are you able to use a >4.2 version?

Anyway, the *-ds.xml files are not completly different.
If you use the jndi-name element you should see java:/<YourName> with the JNDI view.
What is the error message, do you see the DS in the JNDIview and a JCA connector deployed?
