The error you're seeing is because you're attempting to run JBoss AS 4 on Java 6 using the Java 5 distribution, please use the proper Java 6 distribution. Note also that development has stopped on JBoss Portal, our efforts are now focused on our new Portal offering: GateIn. Any specific reason you're still using JBoss Portal?
