Hi Mike,
what if you add the module (without changeing standaloe.xml) and start the server, do you see that the module is correct added?
Then change the standalone.xml.
If you have still errors I would recommend to update to 7.1.1.Final if possible,
also you should add the relevant part of logfile, the service-status-report is not very helpful  :(
