I assume you're talking about JBDS 5. Being behind a corporate proxy might explain some archetype resolution issues. Is that your case?

I suggest you try the https://devstudio.jboss.com/earlyaccess/  latest JBDS 6 Beta version, which includes m2e 1.2, which in turn contains several fixes wrt archetype resolution. See if it helps.
