there was similar issue reported already and was fixed in master (5.4.0-SNAPSHOT)  https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBPM-3679 https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBPM-3679

If you could give a try with latest version to see if that solves the problem for your case too?
