I believe Rob created a few ....let me check...

Yup, see ServerRuntimeUtils.java createMockServerDirectory and where that is used.

Does not seem to be used much but that would allow you do run the unittests *much* faster.

Integration tests could then be written to run the same tests but against "full" servers.
