Brian,
comparator works fine. And of course it's not responsible for adding any 
new bugs (I hope so :)
But the Faceted framework is buggy itself and IMHO we use it wrong. We 
should not invoke it in start() methods (at least in the same thread).
The comparator just triggers this broken code which WTP+JBT have had for 
a few years.
