The problem with freehand editing, specifically with *nix boxes, is that I won't know whether the path they enter is file-system relative or workspace relative.   

Right now, when they select browse filesystem or they select browse workspace, i set a page variable as to whether the path is in the workspace or not.  

If they could just type freehand, I'd have absolutely no way to know if the path was workspace relative or not.  If they typed /a/b/c  I wouldn't know if that was relative to the filesystem or the eclipse workspace.
