no - you don't need to install a 32 bit version linux to run it.
I'm running 64 bit fedora on my 64 bit machine and it runs 32 bit java apps just fine.
yes we will get a 64 bit build eventually, but just to let you know that you can run 32 bit just fine on 64 bit machines/os's
