Maybe it is the same problem that took place with some preference pages: 
saving worked for most customers and did not for some others. We solved it by 
calling save() method on preference store. I added that for the third tab, it may help.

I created seam project and put to src/action folder *all* classes developed in our studio (several thousands), 
added required libraries to compile the project and invoked Browse Class dialog. 
Browse tab worked fast, actually in this case it worked faster than Search tab.
Could you please use debugger or profiler to find what takes time in your case?

The Browse tab was designed as an old-fashioned tool for customers 
who prefer to do without typing, by clicking mouse on tree items only. 
I am not sure that we can make pattern-powered tree to work better 
than Search tab.

My suggestions:
1) Change order of tabs to "Search Browse Recent" or "Search Recent Browse".
2) Make text field in Browse tab read-only because I agree that it is of little help for input.
