definitly - not sure if sourceValidation extension point should be used for this though. What if validation is disabled, will this ever run ? Having a VPE specfic one sounds more sensible since it should give you more control to ensure the two editors are in sync/not colliding in edits/updates....but if sourcevalidation does provide that then sure lets go for that.
