Arne, your description is extremely fuzzy. There is no info on how I can reproduce this or what actually happens.

What do you mean by jboss tools try to build your jboss tools project ?
What does it build ? Is it project archives or ?

What is in the startup and shutdown preferences that says jboss is disabled ?

JBoss Tools does not create a database connection out of the blue so need to be more specific.

Maybe what you are seeing is JBoss AS that is running your application ? That is not something JBoss Tools control since you most likely already deployed it to AS.

About rebuild occurring when you start eclipse that is a normal occurrence if you killed eclipse and its cache have not been written to disk or if Eclipse is unsure about the state of the project and thus triggers a build.

We really need more specific info to help.
