This particular issue is fixed in 3.1.0.M3 stream, it has Seam 2.2 version in a list. I cannot replicate it on last build from trunk on both Seam 2.2.0.CR1/GA.
But there would be the same problem for 2.3.0.XX release for example. It should use 2.2. and say versions are incompatible, but it says about error in current implementation.
