There is a difference on how the links and their icons are shown depending on whether the text is present inside the link element or not. 
For example on the Getting Started page there is only one link which works as expected together with its icon (Viewlets and Tutorials) because there is no text element inside that link element.
I cannot quickly find a way to make the links to work as expected. 
And also, because of it's minor bug, let's delay it for 3.1
