I have tested metadata generator application on Linux.
Linux  requires the repository location to be a valid URL. For instance:
REPOSITORY=file:/tmp
You can also add URL to the script on Windows. For instance:
set REPOSITORY=file:/C:/TEMP

Attached is the script I tested on Linux.
